See what is inside a Corinthian door. These illustrations and plain-English explanations help you understand the differences between core materials, frames and outer skins.
Available constructions vary by collection, design, size, application and location. Confirm the specification of your chosen door before ordering.
Honeycomb

A timber frame surrounds a honeycomb cardboard core, with MDF skins on the outside. A timber lock block provides a fixing area for door furniture. The centre is honeycomb rather than a solid-filled core.
Solid particleboard

This construction has a timber frame, solid HMR (High Moisture Resistant) particleboard core and EXP External Primed skin. Particleboard is an engineered wood material, so a solid particleboard core is not the same as solid timber.
Ultima internal

Ultima internal uses a timber frame, polyfoam core and MDF skins. It includes a timber lock block for door furniture installation. Its foam centre distinguishes it from honeycomb construction.
Solid MDF

A timber frame surrounds a solid MDF core. Corinthian lists EXP External Primed, veneered or BAL 12.5 Certified skin options, depending on the specification. MDF is an engineered wood material; the core and outer finish are separate parts of the door.
Blokdoor

Blokdoor uses finger-jointed laminated timber, with a plywood skin or EXP External Primed skin. This is a joined and laminated timber construction rather than a foam or honeycomb core.
CoriTech external

CoriTech external combines a timber frame with polystyrene between two sheets of MDF. The outer skin can be EXP External Primed or veneered. It is a layered construction rather than solid timber throughout.
Stile and rail joinery

Engineered timber stiles run vertically and rails run horizontally to form the door framing. Depending on the design, the infill can be glass, laminated engineered veneer timber, solid timber or HMR particleboard. Corinthian lists White Oak or Merbau timber for this construction.
Solid MDF with laminated frame

This construction combines a solid MDF core with a 100mm laminated timber frame. The listed outer skin options are EXP External Primed or BAL 12.5 Certified skin, depending on the specification.
Timber slat frame

A timber frame, timber inter-rails and timber lining boards form this construction. Think of it as a board-and-frame design rather than a foam, honeycomb or MDF-filled core.
Polypak external

Polypak external uses a timber perimeter frame with a welded inner steel frame, polystyrene core and EXP External Primed skin. The inner steel frame is a key distinction from the other constructions shown here.
Understanding your door specification
The core is the material inside the door. The frame supports its edges and the skin is its outer face. A timber veneer describes the face material, not necessarily what is inside. Solid core does not automatically mean solid timber.
Do not choose on core name alone. External suitability, acoustic and thermal performance, ratings, hardware positions and trimming allowances need to be checked for the exact model and installation.
